Internet
Telephony
Internet telephony can save you money a couple of
ways. You can make free voice calls over the internet to
anyone with an internet connection anywhere in the world and
often calls to landlines are free to certain locations or much
cheaper than normal telco rates.

Skype
is probably the most well known and popular of VOIP (Voice Over
Internet Protocol) tools. You can also voice
conference with up to 4 other people, instant message and transfer
files as well. As if
all that isn’t cool enough, Skype is free!
To voice chat you will need a headset with a microphone and a good
internet connection.
|
The sound quality is excellent (in fact it is better
than normal phones) and everything (calls, messages, file
transfers) is secure with end-to end encryption.
If your friends are all using different operating systems
it doesn’t matter because Skype (like many other programs in
this guide) is multi-platform.
It’s easy to add contacts to Skype and you can even add
your details to their global directory.
With SkypeOut you can also call regular phone numbers
(landline and mobile) although this is not free.

JAJAH
is an interesting alternative to Skype.
With Jajah you don't even need a headset and you can make calls
from landline to landline (via the internet) to a handful of
countries for free if both users are registered Jajah
users.
No
download and no installation required - it is all done through
the JAJAH website.
