Audacity
is a free easy-to-use audio editor and recorder.
It
is open source and so is free for all to use for any purpose.
This a one of my favorite pieces of free software – powerful and easy to
use.
You
can use it to edit MP3 and wav files as well as Ogg Vorbis files.

Some other key features include:

Record live audio (with some sound cards can record
streaming audio)

Convert tapes and records into digital
recordings or CDs.

Edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, and WAV sound files.

Cut, copy, splice, and mix sounds together.

Change the speed or pitch of a recording.

Record up to 16 channels at once (requires
multi-channel hardware).

Level meters can monitor volume levels
before, during, and after recording.

Import sound files, edit them, and combine
